To end the semester we had a interim review of our work, showing what we have done up to that point. I created a presentation showing my research, my current project description, some prototype exploration and what I plan to focus on next.
Research:
During this semester I created two surveys to gather feedback and information relating to loneliness and community, hoping to find links and helpful insights into what people are looking for when they feel lonely or lack a feeling of connection. From this I found my insights:
People prefer connecting with people not technology. Those experiencing loneliness often feel other people should reach out to them/invite them. People prefer together time, rather than screen time.
Lonely people do not feel heard. Some who feel lonely lack a sense of belonging.
As well as this I presented my desk research of exploring loneliness as an epidemic, the complications of loneliness to physical and mental health, who is vulnerable and projects I found inspirational. I also shared my excursions to the V&A's Hello, Robot exhibition to show my research into digital technologies as this was something I was initially interested in.
I then detailed what my current project brief is: Design for young adults who are suffering from loneliness to help them feel less alone through an interaction.
After this I showed some of my prototyping through sketching I have carried out and then shared what I plan to do next with the project.
