After posting a survey based on mental health and loneliness, this week has been focused on analysing the results. I want to use the results I've gathered to help aid me in my design process. Currently the majority of who answered the survey are female however roughly 90% of those who took part said they have previously felt lonely/or feel lonely. This was my main question because I am interested in helping those who feel that way and I am interested in their ways of dealing with this feeling.
I also wanted to look at why people felt this way, so I asked what situations make people feel lonely. One participant said "Being by myself for long periods of time." another said "Running around after everyone else and getting nothing back". These are two of the 48 responses but give an insight into some situations that can make people feel this way.
I then wanted to see what people were most willing to use when they felt this way, so I asked the question above, adding the option for a physical person as I know even if someone is not available some people still prefer this point of contact.
From this I gathered creating something like a physical AI companion may not be the best idea unless it is mixed with something else, some participants said it may be a bit "creepy" or 'something out of Black Mirror' others simply said "nothing will replace actual human contact".
Based on this survey I have started to draw some insights and a clearer outlook on what people think about the issue and what people would potentially like to see. I am currently expanding my analysis and doing further research as I start to generate more ideas that could be explored.
