Hello, Robot and Other Ventures

This week I have been busy trying to think about what I can create. What I know is that I want to create something friendly and approachable, but what else do I want it to be? I think whatever I create should have a little bit of a personality, either a physical attribute or just another feeling provoked when it's interacted with.

I've spoken to various people this week to try to help get different perspectives on what I believe my issues to be. What I've learned/gathered that I cannot solve all the problems someone who is lonely faces, therefore I should design for one demographic in mind, allowing things to transfer to others if acceptable. Also that I need to have a hook, something that makes my design appealing, something that might speak to people and draw them in. It was also suggested to me to gather deeper insights, that will help me generate that hook I am looking for.

One of my biggest worries is that I will not be able to introduce a human factor into the design, based on previous feedback I am skeptical of replying too heavily on digital technology like AI. I feel like that may be a dead end, due to concerns about how it is persevered.

I've started creating my boards for the sketch model presentations next week. I started creating a layout that I like and is understandable and have started looking more at different projects to help gain inspiration.

In terms of sketch modelling, I have started sketching and trying to make small models. I plan to sketch more and make more based on my insights and exploration.

I was also lucky this week as I got to attend the preview of Hello, Robot at the V&A Dundee. As I initially planned to explore AI and robotics in my project it was helpful to see this exhibition. It helped generate some thoughts about where I want my project to go and give me more information on robots in general. Some highlights of the visit include seeing, the R2-D2 model (My inner Star Wars fan was delighted), and seeing how advanced robots have become. I learned a lot of helpful information while exploring this exhibit, including the possible future involving robotics.
