This week I've focused on trying to think of different ways for people to collaborate creatively. I've looked at using arduino for people to interact with, I created an etch-a-sketch, that people could take turns to draw/express what they are feeling in a fun way. I also like the idea that people complete a group/couple interaction to make something to happen, this could be interesting and cause people to form a connection and start conversations. I particularly like Amsterdam-based designers Boaz Cohen and Sayaka Yamamoto who created Reciprocal Syntax, a seesaw installation. When people use the seesaw, colourful shapes and imagery are projected onto the walls around them. This looks wonderful and shows how interactions can have creative outcomes. (The installation can be seen here: https://www.dezeen.com/2019/05/29/the-conversation-show-design-museum-holon-snarkitecture-mischertraxler-bcxsy/)
Another route is not using technology, I was thinking about having something people could collaboratively work on that lets people express and reflect how they feel. I've been looking at textures and materials that could represent people as I feel senses can stimulate people. Using different textures may help people represent themselves in a more personal way so I think it was helpful to research. I tried some small things that people could collaborate on, a space that they build by weaving fabrics and other materials, small objects that could be decorated by various means in a local location.
Then thinking about objects and feeling ownership over something, I thought about having a 3D frame that could be the shape of a house (perhaps) and using different materials, textures and objects that represent and reflect people's personalities to fill the frame. People work together on the frame to create a sense of community ownership and use it to express how they felt in the moment along with using it to start conversations with those around them.
